This cycling house, open to the general public since 20 April and entirely dedicated to the little queen, is located in Sougné-Remouchamps, on the ground floor of the former Hôtel de la Grotte. It is a project that has been built little by little since 2017 under the human and financial impetus of the province of Liège and the municipality of Aywaille.
This project aims to promote aqualung tourism, which is also supported by Wallonia, the Commissariat Général au Tourisme and Visit Wallonia. It also aims to promote cycling, which is so popular in the Amblève valley.
The Maison du Cyclisme, the only one of its kind in Wallonia, immerses the public in the heart of cycling races: spectators and players alike, spectators stroll through the 8 rooms spread over 300 m².
- History: the history of cycling and the history of cycling races
- The commentators’ booth: as if you were there yourself, with a quiz on cycling at different levels;
- Zone of Great Champions: the wall of great champions presents the 5 monuments and other great races, as well as the 3 great tours, with a special focus on the Doyenne and the Tour de France for the first temporary exhibition;
- Departure zone : a presentation of the teams and their riders, with a registration table;
- Zone Philippe GILBERT: a personal welcome by the champion himself and an immersion in the côte de la Redoute with him via a virtual helmet or even a virtual bike for the sports enthusiasts;
- Space for technological developments: the evolution of different bike parts over the centuries;
- Projection room: this space will also be flexible enough to host different types of events (school visits, press conferences, event presentations, etc.) and will also be able to accommodate thematic and temporary exhibitions;
- Stage-photomaton area
Mythical objects, from bicycles from different eras to medals and jerseys, are on display during the visit.
With its original scenography and innovative technologies, this museum is playful, educational and accessible to all.
The Maison du Cyclisme is managed by the Aywaille municipality and the Maison du Tourisme Ourthe-Vesdre-Amblève.
Its proximity to the town’s tourist attractions (Maison du Tourisme Ourthe-Vesdre-Amblève and Grottes de Remouchamps) and its location on the Doyenne des classiques route make it a reference point for soft mobility in the region (rides, rentals, etc.).
